September-Looking out the window here at Mountain View once again

September, and we joined in celebrating the life and loss of Queen Elizabeth 2. Our Mountain View flag was flown at half-mast to remind all of us that she was a very special lady and dear friend of America. There are many English transplants that rest here at Mountain View. This marker is for the Heath family, one of our earliest U.K. neighbors to trust their remains to our sacred grounds.

Despite the heat, Autumn or as some say, Fall is slowly on the horizon. With our over 200 species of trees, leaves have begun to change their colors. As one walks through our over 60 acres, you can sense that something special is in the air. It’s Mother Nature in all her natural glory, a sure sign that Halloween, Thanksgiving and wait for it, Christmas are all on their way.

There’s good news about one of our most respected authors that is a member of our Mountain View community of artists. FX have now produced a pilot of Kindred, Sci-Fi writer Octavia Butler’s epic of time travel. A writing student at Pasadena City College, it is so wonderful that Octavia’s storytelling will be showcased in a mini-series. We’ll keep you in the loop as early 2023 showtimes are announced.

The recent earthquake in Mexico City was a gentle reminder that we should all be ready for The Big One. It’s easy to stay reminded that we all live on the fault line, as you walk through our scenic Mountain Meadows area. Charles Richter rests amidst the lush green grass, a few seconds walk from a shade tree that has been providing shelter for one of our favorite scientists, for generations.

With our emphasis on walking through our cemetery, we want to remind everyone that our Mother Mausoleum on Marengo Avenue is also open 7 days a week and her Stained-Glass windows are a sight to be seen. Stop by and say hello. Happy September! Go Dodgers!
Till we look out the window here at Mountain View once again…
