January-Looking out the window here at Mountain View once again

It’s January. January 2023. The start of a New Year and a reminder of our early days. It was the days before databases and online shopping. It was the days of horse power and orange groves and history in the making. Our welcoming Fair Oaks gate has been through many evolutions and has been greeting family visitors since way back in 1882.

1882 was the year when we here at Mountain View all began. Some property in Pasadena changed hands and family remains were brought up to us here in Altadena. In those early days, grave markers were traditionally upright and quite busy with many descriptive words and flowery fonts. It was the days of leisure time reading, minimal headlines and newspapers were the main source of news.

Every day and every week we have many visitors to our historic cemetery grounds. We also have a sister historic attraction, it’s our Mother Mausoleum on Marengo Avenue. 1925 Architecture and Stained-Glass wonders are only a minute or two away. Bring a friend. Say hello once again.

Many Movers and Shakers of early Hollywood rest here at Mountain View. Actress and writer Laura Oakley starred in many of those early Keystone silent two-reel epics such as The Girl Ranchers in 1913 and The Black Box in 1915. Laura later married Milton Moore, a cinematographer at Universal. What a life story. A story to Google and to enjoy.

During January we lowered Old Glory to half-mast remembering the tragic events at Monterey Park and honoring our many Asian-American family members that visit and rest here at Mountain View.
Just ahead of us is February. It’s always a month of magicin so many ways and in so many words. Valentine’s Day. Superbowl. Go Dodgers! Spring 2023 is on her way.
Till we look out the window here at Mountain View once again…
